Guitar Lessons by Tommy Chung

I am taking on a few students who are interested in learning to play Blues guitar. The music course I offer is for Blues, it has nothing to do with Jazz or Rock. If you are interested in learning to Jazz or Rock, this is not for you. The music course is for players who are interested in Blues music and it is nothing but the Blues. The emphasis is not on music theory but on practical application : how to play Blues songs with feel, how to solo in a 12 bar, 8 bar or 16 bar context with the eventual goal of playing in a band and performing on stage.

The music course I have in mind are for rudimentary and intermediate players. The course will cover the following area :-

1. Basic Blues rhythm;

2. 12 bar, 8 bar and 16 bar progressions;

3. Rhythm comping, 9th chord comping;

4. Solo guitar in Blues scales and Pentatonic scales;

5. Playing in a full band.

Each lesson will be 45 minutes in duration and 4 lessons are given in each month. To help you master the materials taught I offer the following :-

1. Pre-recorded drums and bass patterns progressions and backing tracks for you to take home to practice with the materials taught;

2. Professionally recorded full band backing tracks;

3. Written materials to help you master the materials taught.

As a student, you can expect my full and undivided attention to monitor your progress and to design a structured lesson plan to suit your need. As your tuitor I expect the following from you :-

1. Punctuality : I expect my students to come on time for their lessons;

2. Diligence : I expect my students to work on the materials taught at home and be able to play them in the next lesson;

3. Dedication : I expect my students to make an appreciable effort to learn the materials taught

4. Each student is expected to take one lesson each week. If they are cannot come on the scheduled date, they are expected to choose another night within one week to make up for the lesson. Unattended lessons will not be carried forward from one month to another month but will be counted as attended lessons.

5 . Progress : I expect progress from my students in each lesson. I am more than happy and will do my best to make sure there is progress on the part of students so they can enjoy what they are learning. I full expect students to really work on the materials taught;

6. You are expected to come on your schedule day. If for any reason you cannot make it, choose another day within the week. Unused lessons will not be carried forward.

Tuition fees are HK$1,800 per month (4 lessons in total) and they are payable on the first lesson of a series of four lessons.

Please note :-

If you are not prepared to work and/or you find it hard to find time in your daily life to spend an appreciable amount of time to work on the materials I teach, this is not the course for you. You will feel unhappy with the workload and I will feel frustrated teaching you. You are expected to spend at least 45 minutes a day practicing. If you cannot spare that amount of time, you should not be coming to lessons at all.
